”Daniele Dainelli was born in 1967 in Livorno.
He is a talented photographer with a particular chromatic
delicacy and the distinctive ability to analyse thoroughly.
Because of his skills he is very appreciated by the most
important International magazines. Dainelli began his
professional career in 1992, as assistant in a photo studio
specialized in still life and fashion. His first professional
work is a calendar realized with portraits to famous Italian
athletes, assigned by Tuscany region. The first reportages he
realized are ”Growing in Bosnia” (exhibited at The Museum Ken
Damy in Brescia) and ”The Silence of Survivors”, on the
condition of Serbians isolated in Krajina (exhibited in Milan
and Bassano del Grappa, during the anniversary of the
Declaration of the Human Rights at Palazzo Roberti). In Kosovo,
at the end of the war, Dainelli started experimenting color
photography, achieving a qualitative leap. Then he started
working on ”Metropolis”, an ambitious color work on the most
important cities worldwide. This reportage, that stems from a
new look over New York after September 11th, has attracted the
attention of the most prestigious International magazines. At
the same time he carried out a project about artists'
communities, as well as their creative and exhibition spaces in
Europe and USA. This reportage, also known as ”Le Stanze
dell'Arte” (Art Rooms), won the Canon Prize 2002 in the ”Best
Project” category.
Afterwards he spent much time on a project, in collaboration
with the Osservatorio sui Balcani Institution, about the Balkan
area, travelling in all of its countries. In 2003 he was
selected to take part at ”Circa 35” exhibition, held at
Fotografia (International Festival of Rome). In the same year
FNAC Italia assigned him a pocket diary for 2004, which then
became a touring exhibition across Italy in all FNAC shops. His
journey continued across various spots of the world. In 2004,
after realizing two city portraits in India (Mumbai and New
Delhi), he moves to Tokyo, where throughout his images he tells
the city present, allowing to figure its future: hard and
dehumanizing, still full of surprises and a fascination that is
hard to resist.
At the same time Dainelli is working on different projects,
such as Ho Chi Minh City city portrait, thirty years after its
liberation. Dainelli's stay in the Far East will lead him to
document other countries of the area.
Daniele Dainelli joined Contrasto in 1999.”
