The sketch plan of Qal'a-i Hauz
Qal’a-i Hauz is the only known archaeological site in the Registan desert so our attention turned to a strip of five high resolution images running north from Qal’a-i Hauz to the Arghandab river. We selected this strip because of its proximity to Bust, and because of the excellent visibility due to the limited vegetation cover and low level of human activity. Hours of analysis of the 1,367 km2 strip, and the subsequent cataloguing of 1800 ‘Placemarks’ marking the locations of structures and anomalies, have resulted in the identification of 451 probable and possible archaeological sites.
